Devanir Campos, organizer of 5th ADTP Meeting

"We need to increasingly discuss rules, improve, evolve and standardize poker"

The 5° Meeting of ADTP - Poker Tournament Directors Association, part of Brazilian Confederation of Texas Hold'em (CBTH) -, was held this Tuesday at the Tryp Melia Hotel in São Paulo, which gathered tournament directors from Brazil and Latin America to discuss and define new guidelines for the activity. GMB spoke with Devanir Campos, BSOP tournament director and one of the organizers, who talked about the event and its importance to standardize poker and boost its development.

GMB - How do you see the event? Did it meet your expectations?
Devanir Campos - It was very good. I think the event met all of our expectations and of those who participated. It was absolutely crowded, what shows the interest and importance of doing this kind of event. I think, from this point of view, that our goals of unification, rules and everything else, will surely be achieved.

About the content presented, what was the main message sent to the directors?
The main message to tournament directors is that a unified set of rules is critical to any sport. The people who play football basically have the same rules whether playing here in Brazil, or now there in Russia or in a COMENBOL championship. And póker, as a very new sport, still has some differences of regions. So we need to discuss rules, improve, evolve and standardize.

How was the participation of tournament directors from other countries of Latin America? Did they receive the massage sent and also were able to expose new experiences?
We had the participation of people from outside the country. This is still a begining. The previous ADTP events have always been more focused on the Brazilian public, but this year we have really extended the invitation to professionals from all over Latin America because of the large player interchange that exists throughout the region. Brazilian players are participating in all the tournaments in the region and Latin Americans are also playing tournaments in Brazil, so the more we have uniformity and standardization of rules throughout the region, it will for sure much better.

Has the issue of gaming legalization been addressed in the event? How are the directors following this process in Brazil?
The legalization of gaming was not an issue. We do not speak objectively of this, in some moments they were sited some differences or similarities of other markets that have the regulation, but, the legalization was not really the subject of the event today.

With this week experiences was it possible to identify what worked well and to plan news for the next edition? What can we expect?
Certainly we reached all the goals we had with the event. And yes, we are already preparing for the next edition next year, in the second semester. And as we know that due to a physical space problem, in this edition a lot of people were left out, we should schedule next year to have a bigger event giving more people the possibility to participate, in order to be all together at this very legal moment of professional growth for all.
