Luiz Felipe Maia, FYMSA Advogados partner

"At Juegos Miami it was noticed great interest and expectation for the Brazilian market"

The renowned Brazilian lawyer, Luiz Felipe Maia, a partner at FYMSA Advogados, atended to Juegos Miami last week and participated as speaker. In a quick conversation with GMB, Maia said that he left important messages to the audiencde of the event and commented that despite noting a great frustration with the country, there is still a lot of interest from entrepreneurs in Brazil.

GMB - What are the main points addressed in your lectures during Juegos Miami Games last week?
Luiz Felipe Maia - My presentation was basically a general review of what happened in this process of regulation since 2015 trying to explain a little of the political conjuncture that we lived in Brazil in that period in which we had impeachment, recession, institutional crisis and difficulty to approve a gaming law during that political environment.

What messages did you leave to the audience that attended your sessions?
We can summarize the message in two points. The first is that coordination of efforts is needed. As long as each group is pulling aside it will be harder to approve anything. It is much easier for you to block a bill than approve it. So, the message I wanted to pass on to all groups is that it is important to try to find some middle ground so that there is, if not a consensus, at least that the discomfort as less as possible. The other point is precisely the need to create an environment more favorable to the gaming topic with public relations campaigns, with media work to make the general population to have a greater sense of what is the industry and, with that information, make that people can have less resistance on  the topic in the legislature.

How do you evaluate the impact that your messages had on the audience? Do you believe that some of the public can have a new posture regarding legalization?
I think the public understands the need, but it is very difficult to negotiate between different interests.

How did you notice the market, through the representatives in Juegos Miami, about the expectations on the Brazilian market?
I perceived some kind of frustration with Brazil. Few dare to make any prediction of when the law will be passed, but all claim to have great interest.
