Game XP generates economic impact of US$ 13.5 million for Brazil

The event that brought the main novelties of eSports markets in the first Game Park of the world, bringing together attractions, tournaments and unpublished games to Rio de Janeiro last September 6-9, handled close to US$ 13.5 million with several types of expenses and taxes, in addition to creating more than 1000 jobs according to data from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).

The Ministry of Culture (MinC) released on Sunday (09) the results of the study that shows the economic impact of Game XP, the largest event of the games sector in Latin America, held in Rio de Janeiro from 6 to 9 September.

Performed by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), survey shows a total economic impact of R$ 53,934,075.13 (close to US$ 13.5).

Of the total, US$ 9 million are of direct impact and involve expenses with lodging, food and transportation. The remaining US$ 4.5 million involve the activities of suppliers impacted by the event.

It also generated a total US$ 1.25 in taxes, of which US$ 467,000 were municipal, US$ 143,000 were state and US$ 627,000 federal. The event also created 1,332 job openings, 661 direct and 671 indirect ones.

"Between 2012 and 2016, the average annual growth of the games industry was 28.7% and it is expected to continue growing 16.5% a year until 2021. The game market is the 13th in the world, the largest in Latin America and should double in revenue by 2021," said Sérgio Sá Leitão, Minister of Culture.

To carry out the research, the FGV interviewed 445 people, between August 6 and 8. The survey considered the participation of 100 thousand people in four days of event.

Game XP brought to Rio de Janeiro the first Game Park in the world, bringing together attractions, eSports tournaments and games unheard of for the Brazilian public.
