The group seeks to operate in the country

Las Vegas Sands met with Brazilian officials to fight money laundering

One of the most important casino groups in the world continues with its installation plans in Brazil as soon as the activity in the country is legalized. Beyond the meetings in the last two years between Sheldon Adelson and President Temer, among others, last Friday it was held another one between representatives of Las Vegas Sands and the president of the Council of Control of Financial Activities (COAF) of the Ministry of Finance Fazenda, Antônio Carlos Ferreira de Sousa.

The meeting held in Brasilia was promoted by the group that operates large casinos worldwide and aimed to find out, know and provide combat mechanisms to money laundering relates with gambling in in Brazil in the future.

On behalf of Las Vegas Sands were present its permanent representatives in Brazil: Fabio Lowenthal (partner of Lowenthal Advogados, in São Paulo), Henry Lowenthal (partner and director of GR8 Capital Consultoria Empresarial) and Camila Barbosa (Government Affairs Manager of Prospectiva Consulting where she identifies regulatory risks and opportunities in Brazil for multinationals and associations).

This visit ocorre at a delicate moment, when a group of politicians believes that it is best to approve only the installation of casinos in resorts (possibilidade that is driven by the president of Câmara dos Deputados, Rodrigo Maia) while a pro-game parliamentary front insists em that e melhor abrir or jogo mais abrangente, for more modalities as it raises the amendment of the deputy Andres Sanchez or the PL 186/2014 of the Senate.

This visit comes at a delicate time when a group of politicians believe it is more convenient to approve the installation of casinos in resorts (a possibility that is driven by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia) while a pro-game parliamentary front insists that it is better to open the activity with more gaming modalities as proposed by the amendment of Deputy Andres Sanchez or the PL 186/2014 of the Senate.

It is not the first time that the LVS comes to Brazil to convince about integrated resort complexes. In February, former Secretary of Fiscal, Energy and Lottery Accompaniment Mansueto Almeida also received in Brasilia Andy Abboud, vice president of government relations for the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The meeting was requested by the international group and the guideline was 'Legalization of gaming in complexes of integrated resorts'. Lawyers at the Lowenthal office and an economist at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation accompanied Abboud at that time.

Last year, the group's own president, Sheldon Adleson, visited the country and met with local officials. Also members of Las Vegas Sands witnessed the launch of the Gaming Parliamentary Front in October 2017.
