William Hill US gets approval to operate five more Nevada sportsbooks

Nevada gaming regulators granted preliminary approval for sports gambling giant William Hill US to add five more locations in Nevada. The sportsbook operator, which is front and center in the expanding U.S. sports betting market, will take over sports wagering activities for four casinos operated by Golden Entertainment and a stand-alone North Las Vegas casino.

If the Nevada Gaming Commission signs off on the recommendation January 24, William Hill will have 114 sports betting locations across Nevada.

“There’s a lot happening in other parts of the country, but we are not losing sight of what we can do close to home,” William Hill US CEO Joe Asher said following the hearing in Las Vegas. The company is headquartered in Las Vegas.

William Hill will take over the sports betting operations at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, two Arizona Charlie’s properties in Las Vegas and on the Boulder Highway, and the Aquarius in Laughlin. Golden purchased the casinos in 2017.

“We’ve had a long-standing partnership with Golden,” Asher said. William Hill has sport betting kiosks at Golden’s taverns in Nevada and operates a sports book at the Pahrump Nugget.

In addition, William Hill will take over the sports book at the privately-owned Jerry’s Nugget in North Las Vegas.

William Hill US has sports betting businesses in all six states – Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island – where the activity has opened following May’s Supreme Court ruling that allowed states to legalize and regulate sports books at casinos and racetracks.

Also last week, Eldorado Resorts received Control Board approval to acquire 20 percent of William Hill US through a sport betting deal that was announced in September.

Under the agreement, William Hill US will oversee the sports betting operations for Eldorado Resorts through an agreement that will give the regional casino operator a 20 percent ownership stake in the bookmaker. Reno-based Eldorado has 28 casinos in 13 states.
