Horacio Salas Novikov, 1xBet Key Account Manager

"Online betting legalization in many new areas as Brazil will be a hot topic at ICE 2019"

Horacio Salas Novikov, account manager at 1xBet, speaks exclusively to GMB about the company's expectations for ICE 2019. He focuses mainly on projections for the sports betting sector in Latin America, specially in countries such as Brazil, a recent legalized market. 'Details about how to obtain licences in these new markets, together with possible timeframes, will be highly sought after... Brazil in particular is a key market that we value, so it makes sense to learn as much as we can as we go along', explained Salas Novikov.

GMB - Once again you are participating at ICE. What will the company showcase this year in London to the market?
Horacio Salas Novikov - As you know, we make a point of representing 1xBet at ICE each year - in fact it’s a highlight on our calendar. We like to contribute to the excitement of the event by organizing various contests and raffles for visitors. It’s also an opportunity to put a spotlight on what we offer both clients and other businesses. These services include a vast array of global payment options, a huge number of third-party products (casino, slots and so on), eSports and much more. We aim to be the best and we want that commitment to be on full display.

What themes or topics do you imagine will be the most relevant in this edition of the expo?
Without a doubt, the further legalization of online betting will be a hot topic. With imminent legalization in many new areas, the global marketplace is poised to grow exponentially. Details about how to obtain licences in these new markets, together with possible timeframes, will be highly sought after. I would also think that local expertise in any new markets would be in great demand.

The online gaming sector seemed to not slow down growthwise despite economic uncertainties globally. Do you think this trend will further continue in 2019 and if so, why?
Yes – definitely. Whether it be in a first world nation or a developing country, with each passing year internet access grows cheaper and more accessible. The convenience of buying goods from home at the click of a button is extremely appealing. This also applies to online sports betting and gambling which has seen phenomenal growth and is unlikely to slow down in the foreseeable future. The user experience will also become more immersive as internet speeds increase and technology advances, further contributing to growth.

How profitable was the company in 2018?
I don’t want to divulge specific figures but can safely say that our profits have increased each year since inception. We have no intention of resting on our laurels though and are determined to keep this trajectory going.

Can you share some plans for upcoming projects in 2019?
2019 will be the culmination of some carefully laid plans. We have major expansions scheduled in new areas, dependent of course on local licensing. Our affiliate network will also see innovation and growth. And lastly, but certainly not least, we will be entering into multiple new contracts for cooperation with top service providers.

What role does Latin America play for you?
Latin American is a promising and exciting prospect with massive potential. We began work in this market in mid-2018 and have new advertising campaigns scheduled for this year. It’s important that the reputation of our brand be firmly established. Cooperation with local providers is also part of our plan, which will begin to kick into full gear in the coming months.

What products/services are the most successful in the region?
While sports betting is certainly the most popular form of gambling in the region, it’s important that we offer a full spectrum of betting options. The inclusion of local payment systems will also be vital.

Where do you stand after the recent legalization of sports betting?
We are in close communication with our consulting company for the region. As with any new market, one must be fully aware of regional nuances and legalities. Brazil, in particular, is a key market which we value, so it makes sense to learn as much as we can as we move forward. A unique approach is required for each new market we enter.

How important is the legalization of gaming in Brazil and how it progresses?
As mentioned, all data collected suggests that the Brazilian public are far more interested with the prospect of sports betting than casinos, slots or third-party products. For that reason, I think it was of paramount importance that this sphere was regulated first.
