Sheldon Adelson awaits legalization to build two IR in Brazil

The owner of the largest USA casinos, Sheldon Adelson, is keeping an eye on Brazil. Should Congress approve the return of casinos, it plans to build two casinos in resorts, one in Sao Paulo, and another in Rio de Janeiro, in Barra da Tijuca. Adelson does not take away the beauties of the Olympic Park of Barra da Tijuca, now in the hands of the Union's AGLO, but which may be the subject of a good financial proposal of the magnate.

The information was published by journalist Leandro Mazzini in his well-known and well-informed “Coluna Esplanada”.

At meetings this year in Rio de Janeiro, city mayor Marcelo Crivella talked to American billionaire Adelson, who chairs Las Vegas Sands, to build a luxury hotel and leisure complex like the one the Group has in Las Vegas , the Singapur.

"I want the new president Jair Bolsonaro to help me pass a super license to have a casino. I received a visit from Sheldon Adelson, president of Las Vegas Sands, and he is very interested in investing $ 10 billionof dollares and generating 50,000 jobs”, Crivella said in December last year.

According to sources, two areas would be on Sheldon Adelson's radar: the Port Region and the Parque Olímpico in Barra neighborhood. In Brazil, gambling has been banned since 1946. The mayor acknowledges that for the American to obtain a license, he would have to win a public competition, in addition to the law being changed.

From his side, at the two-day roadshow, through Las Vegas and Los Angeles in November 2018, Sao Paulo Mayor Bruno Covas also met with businessman Sheldon Adelson, owner of The Venetian Casino, who would have shown an interest in Complex of Anhembi, one of the assets of the municipality in the process of bidding.

Covas maintained contacts with about 60 corporate executives and investment funds, much of the hotel and entertainment sector.
