New Caixa president reveals plans to privatize Lotteries

The new president of the Brazilian state-owned bank Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, said that the bank will begin to open the capital of its subsidiaries later this year. According to him, at least two initial IPOs are expected in 2018 and the areas that will be offered to the market during his management include insurance, cards, lotteries and the investment sector.

According to the executive, the bank will maintain control of the capital of these subsidiaries. Guimarães, who will take office next Monday, also said after participating in the ceremony of transmission of the position of Economy Minister, Paulo Guedes, that Caixa should sell minority interests of subsidiaries that will be listed on the stock exchange.

Guedes also said that privatizations will be the second pillar of the government, after the pension reform. He recalled that corruption and sale of favors in public companies have been at the center of scandals in recent years.

At the ceremony, the new president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, also said that the bank will begin to open the capital of its subsidiaries and that at least two initial IPOs will be made still this year. In his administration, according to Guimarães, the insurance, cards and lotteries will be offered to the market.

Although his appointment has already been published in the Official Gazette, the transfer ceremony will take place in the Planalto Palace next Monday, 7, when Rubem Novaes will take over BB and Joaquim Levy the BNDES. "We will make important announcements on Monday," he promised.
