Firm’s official announcement in Sao Paulo

Genius Sports extends agreement with local Basketball League, could set up office in Brazil

During a press conference in Sao Paulo, Chris Dougan, Director of Communications at Genius Sports Group, announced that the company will extend the contract with the National Basketball League (LNB) becoming the provider of all statistics and will be responsible for a system for preserving the integrity of competition related with bets. The firm now intends to enter the local volleyball market and strongly in the country. Thus, it could set up an office in Brazil and start acting only when sports betting is regulated.

“It is essential that the Brazilian sport, as basketball, opens the transparency so that we have a sports betting market. This is a visionary step of the LNB and I hope it will be followed by other groups because this is fundamental for the future, and LNB looks to the future,” commented Chris Dougan, Genous Sports’ Director of Communication, during a press conference at the Renaissance Hotel in São Paulo, along with Marcus Vinicius Freire, Olympic volleyball medalist and with extensive executive experience in sports as CEO of Fluminense club and the Brazilian Olympic Committee, and directors of the LNB.

“We are negotiating with the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) and we intend to work with the largest number of entities in Brazil. We really want to get into the country," said Fernando Martinez, Genius Sports representative in South America.

"We intend to analyze the predictable results, before the game and after the game. But there are several factors that influenced the results of the game. If there is something out of the predictable, we will alert the federation about a possible manipulation. We will also do the educational part of the sport. It's critical that everyone involved in sports has education about it,” Dougan explained.
