Brazil’s Vice-President and Minister Tourism pointed to casinos to attract investments

During the inauguration session of the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF) in Macau, China, Brazil's Vice President Hamilton Mourão (by video) said he wants more investment from privates on the tourism industry, while the Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro António stressed the attractiveness of foreign investment with the opening of casinos in the country. 'The legislative [power] evaluates regulating the operation of casinos in [integrated] resorts,' he said.

The vice president of Brazil, General Hamilton Mourão, participated in the event by video. He thanked for the chance that Brazil became one of the guests of honor of the event. “I have no doubt that we are currently the best business opportunity, and this involves the tourism industry in the world. We are open to dialogue to further improve our relations.” He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with China, hoping that the relationship with what is currently the most important trading partner will be further enhanced in tourism.


                                                         


Attending the forum, Brazilian Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro António explained the Government's areas and measures to “strengthen the country's capacity to attract investment and tourists”, stressing that in July, foreign tourists' spending in the country was higher than 43% to US$ 598 million compared to the same month of last year.

"Our Government is focusing on the private sector and taking steps to develop the [tourism] industry through investment in airport infrastructure and new technologies," exemplified Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourão in a video message shown this Monday in Macau during the opening session of the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF), in which Brazil and Argentina are honored guests.

In the Asian capital of gaming, where around 40 million visitors are expected this year, Marcelo Álvaro António pointed out one of the bets to further boost tourism and private financing in the country: casinos. "I want to remind you that the [power] legislature in Brazil evaluates regulating the operation of casinos in [integrated] resorts, opening major avenues of investment in the country,” he said.


                                                        


"The Ministry of Tourism is already working to make better use of the world's cultural and natural heritage, the expansion of maritime cruises throughout the country, the largest worldwide concessions and privatization program in terms of accessibility, as well as the creation special areas of tourist interest, with differentiated licensing rules,” he also mentioned when listing the different measures taken by the government.

The minister also argued that these special areas of tourist interest can become "great centers of economic activities, through the implementation of enterprises, hotels and theme parks." The GTEF, which ends today (Tuesday), has more than 10,000 participants from 89 countries and regions.

Brazil's participation in the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF) continued on Monday (14). The president of Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Institute), Gilson Machado Neto, presented to representatives of 89 countries and the Chinese tourist community the main novelties of Brazilian tourism.
