Embratur wants casinos in Brazil similar to Macau and Singapore

The president of Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Institute), Gilson Machado Neto, said in an interview to Lusa that it will be proposed to the Congress to authorize the opening of casinos in integrated resorts such as Macau and Singapore. On the sidelines of an international forum dedicated to tourism, he assured that there are several 'ambitious actions' that will be sent to the Brazilian Congress later this year, but that there is also a proposal that is being analyzed: the opening of casinos in Brazil.

"Another thing we have in mind is the liberalization of integrated resort with casinos like this one [MGM in Macau], in Brazil," he explained. "As casinos are still banned," he said, “it is necessary to ensure a legislative change to make this bet in the gaming and leisure industry.”

"It is this model of Macao and Singapore that we are studying and we will present to Congress," said Gilson Machado Neto.

"I want to remind that the legislative [power] in Brazil is considering regulating the operation of casinos in [integrated] resorts, opening major avenues of investment in the country,” commented the country’s Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro António, who also participated at the Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macau.

Macau, the only territory in China where casino gambling is legal, last year reported 32.796 billion euros in gaming revenue, up 14% from the previous year.

In Macau there are three operators (Macau Gaming Society, Galaxy and Wynn resorts) and three sub-operators (Venetian, MGM Resorts and Melco), half of which have US capital.

Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr. also defended the opening of casinos in Brazil

As part of the delegation that participated in GTEF in Macau, Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr (MDB MG) also spoke about the work done in the Tourism Commission and the priority projects that Parliamentarians advocate to boost the sector in Brazil. Among them, the legalization of gaming and the implementation of casinos and big resorts. To this end, they seek to attract foreign investment and increase the number of international tourists visiting our country. In this event, they intensified partnerships and exchanged experiences with leaders, entrepreneurs and politicians from around the world.
