The importance of gaming is featured in Rio de Janeiro's entertainment forum

The School of Magistrates of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ) promotes today (Thursday 24th) the forum 'Entertainment as a vocation in the city of Rio de Janeiro', opening a space to a lecture on the importance of the gaming sector for the development of cities. The panel will be led by lawyer Paulo Horn, lottery specialist and former Vice President of LOTERJ. In addition to betting, the event will also discuss the impact of carnival and other major events on Rio’s economy.

The event that takes place today from 9:30 am in the Auditorium Des. Joaquim de Vizeu Panalva Santos, central region of Rio de Janeiro, and is part of the program of the 31st Meeting of the Permanent Forum on City Law, organized by EMERJ. The lecture “The Games of Chance in the Development of Cities” closes the schedule of the events and will address the impact that the activity can have on a city's economy with a view on tax collection, job creation and the new opportunities that may arise in the cities surroundings where gaming is developed.

The lecture will be conducted by Paulo Horn, a lawyer with a wide experience in the lottery industry, having been vice president of LOTERJ - State Lottery of Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he has a master’s degree in city law from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), and is graduated in Legal and Social Sciences from the Faculty of Law of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - FND / UFRJ. He is also a specialist in Consumer Law and in Constitutional, Administrative and Tax Law and member of the Constitutional Law Commissions of OAB / RJ and of the National Institute of Brazilian Lawyers (IAB), integrating the Special Commission for the Examination of Bills aiming at the regulation of gaming and entertainment in Brazil.

The other lectures of the event will be “Carnival as foment in the development of the city of Rio de Janeiro”, with the teacher Vânia Sicilliano Aleta; “Mega Events and the impact on urban microeconomics” with lawyer Marcelo Queiroz; “The Big Events and the infrastructure of cities”, with economist Marcio Sette Fortes and “Naming Rights in the cities”, with lawyer Paula Vergueiro.

The Rio de Janeiro State Magistracy School - EMERJ was created by Law No. 1,395, on December 8, 1988, within the structure of the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Justice. On June 26, 1989, the regulation of the School was approved at a Special Body Session, chaired by Judge Pedro Américo Rio Gonçalves, then President of the Court. Since then, in 30 years of history, it has been working to train, improve magistrates and disseminate legal knowledge, and has been recognized by law professionals in the State of Rio de Janeiro as a school of excellence in the dissemination of legal knowledge.
