Plan includes rematch against Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather aims to build casino empire in Japan

Legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather has big plans for Japan that includes building a casino empire in the Asian country, with a possible millionaire rematch against Manny Pacquiao for the launch. Mayweather opened TMT Japan (The Money Team) in Tokyo this June, after announcing a partnership between management company Libera and Kyoei boxing gym.

Floyd Mayweather is serious about making a big splash in the Japanese market. His plan is to develop a casino hotel in Okinawa and use his brand to promote the gamng venue. One of the ways he plans to do this is to host regular boxing matches and combat sports events at his casino hotel.

There are some who may be sceptical about Mayweather’s commitment to the casino hotel project in Japan given the fact that he is based out of the United States and runs multiple businesses in America. However, Mayweather has reaffirmed his commitment to Japan stating that he plans to buy a house in Tokyo that will enable him to stay longer in the country.

Hong Kong based promoter Jay Lau said Mayweather, who was a favourite with Nevada casino chiefs throughout his career, is looking to cash in on the new betting market that that wll grow in Japan with the opening of casinos.

“In Asia more and more casinos are setting up. Mayweather came to Tokyo to set up TMT Japan because of the Japan casinos that open in the next year. There are casinos opening in Cambodia, Singapore and China as well. It means boxing will get more and more popular,” he said, and added that “the Manny rematch is the biggest thing that can happen.”

Mayweather’s ambition is to create a casino hotel in Okinawa, allowing him to stage fights in Japan, and revealed at a press conference in June his plan for more money-spinning exhibitions."Negotiations are progressing, although it is not yet official, my opponent could be a kickboxer or an MMA fighter,” he said.

"It's natural that I come up with this idea, because I'm buying a house in Tokyo so I don't have to repeat the long trips between the United States and Japan," concluded Mayweather.
