“Brazil lagged behind in gaming, sports betting is the first step against the delay”

Earlier this week it was held an important meeting that linked gaming activity and the entrepreneurial world in Brazil during the LIKE THE FUTURE event in Sao Paulo. Speaker at the ‘Gaming Market: What's your bet?’ panel, André Gelfi, a partner at Suaposta, told GMB about the importance of the event, the audience that attendedt, the new opportunities that have emerged in the gaming affiliate industry and stated that the regulation of sports betting is recovering the industry from a long delay.

GMB - You participated as one of the speakers at LIKE THE FUTURE about the gaming market. How do you evaluate the meeting and what does it mean for the activity?
André Gelfi - I found it very cool to talk outside our sector. The fact that the activity arouses the interest of LIDE, which is a recognized brand that promotes networking, the meeting of entrepreneurs with investors is super important. Speaking specifically of gaming, it's more a sign that things are promising. I was very happy to be invited and present what is happening, demystify some issues, explain the whole regulatory process, in short, it was very positive. This just has to add so that we have greater visibility and support, generate knowledge and new business.

Do you think talking to a different audience is more important? How can this new audience help the gaming industry gain more ground for regulation?
A total importance. We are talking here about a qualified, successful audience that has wrongly brought a business bias. We put our activity here as a business and not a philosophical question about whether I am for or against and I, who am a liberal by conviction, believe that the audience was in the same vein and the conversation was to educate, explore and demystify all this history against gaming. I think opinion makers will naturally pass this message on and it is important to end the delay we have in the sector.

What do you mean when you talk about delay? Do you believe that Brazil could go faster in relation to the discussion of gaming?
Brazil lagged behind in this discussion. Our sector notably has a lot to do from the regulatory and development standpoint for the coming years. I think the first step is the regulation of sports betting.

You are a partner of Suaposta and have a recognized work with turf, but you also know a lot about the affiliate market. What can you tell us about it and how do you expect the sector to develop in Brazil?
It is a blank sheet. The market we are seeing today is very different from what we will have two or three years from now. It will change drastically and the players that will be in the market from now until a few years will be the current ones who have been able to adapt or new players. That is, the conversation will be very interesting, and I hope to have news to share soon.
