BSOP 2019: Largest poker tournament in LatAm reaches final stage in Sao Paulo

When it comes to how to play poker, Brazilians are one of the global references and the status that the Brazilian Series of Poker already has is a reflection of that. Founded in 2006, this circuit gains strength every year and the final stage, called the BSOP Millions, is expected to bring together thousands of players. This year's event is going on since yesterday and until December 5th in São Paulo.

In Latin America, there is unanimity when it comes to the largest circuit on the continent. The Brazilian Series of Poker, popularly known as BSOP, is officially recognized as the Brazilian poker championship and occasionally some Portuguese participate in the circuit.

Sao Paulo, the chosen venue

Considered as the mother city of BSOP, in 14 seasons of the tournament São Paulo hosted almost 40 stages of the championship. As could be no different, the city is hosting the closing event of 2019.

This year, of the seven BSOP programmed stages, three were destined for São Paulo. All at the WCT Sheraton, which will also be the stage for BSOP Millions.

Part of what makes BSOP Millions run every year in Sao Paulo is the great response from fans about this venue. “BSOP only got where it is because it knows how to listen to the public,” says Devanir Campos, founder of BSOP. “It's the players who sit at the tables and you have to listen to their opinion. Since 2014 there is a Board of Athletes, which is made up of some of the biggest names in our sport. We met several times and from there came many of the changes that BSOP has had, he concludes.

A special season for the BSOP

In 2015, the BSOP Millions main event reached its peak in attendance, with a total of 3,866 competitors. To get an idea of the high popularity, this amount is larger than the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event.

The expectation is that this year's BSOP Main Event will come close to or even surpass the number of players who have signed up for the final round of the 2015 circuit.

Many impressive milestones were already hit by the BSOP in 2019. One of them is the fact that, for the second time, the circuit has reached Argentina. In the first stage of the season, the BSOP was held in the city of Puerto Iguazú, in Misiones.

That was not the first time the BSOP was played outside Brazil. In 2018, a stage of the circuit also took place in Puerto Iguazú, while in 2016 and 2017 the circuit visited the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este.

Looking forward to the closing stage, Brazilian poker cameras and lights will be on the Sheraton WTC during the last days of November and the first week of December at the BSOP Millions stage with poker of the highest quality.
