Representatives of the so-called Centrão bloc asked again the possibility to develop casinos in Brazil. President Jair Bolsonaro did not give definitive answer to the request but said that everything can be "talked about". For the president, before approving it would be necessary to consult the evangelical bench. The religious group takes a stand against the gambling project, but already admits it can discuss an alternative.
Names like Marcelo Crivella (Republicans), mayor of Rio and Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), the president of the Deputies Chamber, are in favor of legalizing casinos. Maia argues that the measure is restricted to resorts and Crivella maintains that the release should only be for foreigners, with the desire to attract ventures to the state capital.
In 2015, a special commission was set up to evaluate the proposal to legalize casinos, bingo, jogo do bicho, among other modalities. The discussions have not advanced so far. A bill authorizing the exploitation of gambling throughout the country is ready for vote in plenary.
