Rafael and Rodrigo Garcia, ON e-Stadium partners

"Brazil has all the requirements to become a powerhouse in eSports"

On November 28th, it was the official opening of the most modern eSports complex in Latin America, ON e-Stadium, in São Paulo. GMB talked with the partners of the venue, Rafael and Rodrigo Garcia. They talked about the research they did to create the environment, the available programming and the regulation and professionalization of eSports in Brazil. 'Regulatory will give the segment greater credibility and attract more investors and sponsors to brands, teams, professionals and the companies themselves.'

GMB - The purpose of On e-Stadium is to be the most modern eSports complex in Latin America. Have you sought to know other spaces to be inspired when creating this?
Rafael Garcia and Rodrigo Garcia -
Yes! On some trips to the US and Europe, we had the opportunity to meet other arenas and complexes that inspired us on the ON e-Stadium project.

What can you find at On e-Stadium that makes it stand out as the most modern Latin American complex?
Some of our key differentiators are: proprietary store with custom products, partner booth expo space, content production studios, streaming rooms, state of the art PC gaming experience, consoles, VR and cockpit, and multipurpose arena with capacity for 600 people.

What is the purpose of creating a space like this?
The goal is to be the largest and most complete complex of games and eSports in Latin America and thus receive and promote championships for both the professional and amateur scenario.

Do you intend to keep a daily schedule in the complex? What will you offer?
The complex will operate daily from Thursday to Sunday from 12h to 21h and Friday and Saturday from 10h to 21h. Every day, the public will be able to visit the complex during these times, which will have the store and Game Experience working to cater to visitors.

Why did you choose the city of São Paulo to develop this venue?
São Paulo is the heart of Brazil and we believe there would be no better thermometer than the city to host a project like ON e-Stadium. Moreover, it is in São Paulo that the main teams and publishers of the segment are concentrated.

Do you believe that Brazil can become an eSports powerhouse? How can we turn it into this?
Certainly! Brazil has all the requirements for this. We already have in the country some e-athletes who are making history outside Brazil in the CS: GO and R6 modalities, for example, as well as many Brazilian teams that are always competing in international competitions. The scenario of eSports is gaining more and more prominence in our country, proof of this is to see major brands, endemic and non-endemic, investing in the segment. The best way to help make this scenario more and more successful is to continue to break down barriers and prejudices and to offer the public a unique experience like ON e-Stadium.

Have you been following the discussion on eSports regulation at the Education, Culture and Sport (EC) Commission? What advantages do you see in regulating this business?
Yes, we have been following and hope that this regulation actually happens, as this will give more credibility to the segment and companies that are part of the games and eSports scenario, besides attracting more investors and sponsors to the brands, teams, professionals and for the companies themselves.

Do you believe that eSports will be regulated soon in the country? Do you see a lot of players wanting to professionalize and looking for a place to practice?
We believe so and we are hoping for that, as we commented in the previous answer. One of the cornerstones of ON e-Stadium is the Academy, a strand of the project that will offer courses from the Superior School of Advertising and Marketing ESPM for those who want to know a little more about the gaming and eSports universe, for those who want to become a pro player and, also, for companies and professionals who want to know more about the segment and learn how to work their brand in a growing market.
