Deputy Bacelar states legalizing gambling would make Salvador city grow

Once again Deputy Bacelar, president of the Parliamentary Front for the Approval of the Regulatory Framework of Gaming in Brazil, expressed his support for the legalization of the activity. The congressman made a video with numbers about the legal gambling market in the US, the current clandestine sector in Brazil and how the industry could help Salvador -Bahia state’s capital- generating jobs and increasing tourist activity, among other benefits.

In the video posted on his Facebook page, Bacelar showed numbers from the US gaming market, which generates about 730,000 jobs and drives US$ 230 billion in Las Vegas alone, one of the world's largest casino references.

In the sequence, the video deals with how Brazilians consume gaming. According to the congressman, there are 20 million people betting in clandestine places around the country and moving US$ 4.9 billion, which do not return to society. In addition, there are more than 200,000 national tourists that travel to other countries with casinos and other gambling modalities and stop moving the national tourism.

Using this tourism hook, Bacelar concludes the video showing that Salvador can benefit greatly from the country's gaming regulation. He reveals that large casino companies have already shown interest in investing in the city, which would generate enough jobs to take Salvador from the capital position with the largest number of unemployed in Brazil. In addition, the casinos would increase the tourist movement beyond holiday dates, such as New Year and carnival, and would be important to transform the city.

In the text that invites to watch the video, Bacelar said: “Gambling and betting are common practices in Brazilian daily life. Who has never played Mega Sena, jogo do bicho or made bets? It is a reality. We can’t deny. But because they remain illegal, they do not bring any benefit to the country. Salvador needs to grow! The law must regulate the activity. All in a clean and clear manner. Generating jobs, income, moving the economy and warming tourism. With revenue, our municipality will have more chance to develop. Therefore, I defend the legalization of gambling!”

The post made yesterday (Wednesday 18) reached 12 likes, 1 comment and 1 share on Facebook, and IGTV (Instagram video platform) the video has 137 views.

Bacelar was a city councilor in Salvador on four occasions, being his first warrant in 1982 and also served as Secretary of Education in the city. In 2014 he was elected federal deputy with 95,000 votes and reelected in 2018 with approximately 150,000 votes by Bahians. Today, he is preparing to run as mayor of Salvador in the 2020 elections.
