Brazilian Tourism Minister met with Mato Groso’ sector head and discusses casinos opening

Bruno Wendling, the director of FundTur (Tourism Foundation) in Mato Grosso do Sul, went to Brasília where he met with the new Minister of Tourism (MTur), Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, and presented state tourism demands, priorities and objectives of state sector leaders. Among the themes discussed, the opening of casinos was one of the highlights.

Endling represented the presidency of the Forum of State Directors of Tourism (Fornatur), which was occupied by Hugo Ricardo Paiva Veiga from November 2018. The importance of constant dialogue with the MTur Public Policy Forum was one of the topics addressed at the meeting.

Amongst the demands presented, Fundtur’s president reinforced the need to work on the Céus Abertos (Open Skies) agreements effectively; the release of American, Japanese and Chinese visas; creation of the area of Market Intelligence with effective Benchmarking actions; integration of public policies, projects and actions between MTur, Embratur and States.

During the meeting was discussed the release of casinos in certain areas, in limited number by State and with specific legislation, in addition to participation in the Promotion in an integrated way in Fairs and Events.

It was also suggested the formatting of public security policies (MTur, National Secretariat of Public Security, Ministry of Economy / Planning and States) for the creation of Tourist Interest Zones and financing models for States to set up their Tourist Police Battalions.

Another important point addressed at the meeting was the repositioning of Brazil's product. "I emphasized to Minister Marcelo that Brazil needs to reposition its product. We believe that ecotourism should be the anchor segment, as we are the first destination in natural attractions in the study of global competitiveness. ‘Ecotourism corridors’ are present throughout the country," says the representative of Fornatur.

The Minister undertook to attend the first regular meeting of Fornatur, where he will give a position to all the secretaries and state leaders on each of the lawsuits presented.

"It was a very positive meeting for both Fornatur and Fundtur, where I took advantage of and requested support from the Ministry in the revitalization project of the Convention Center, one of the most important business tourism equipment in the Midwest," concluded Wendling.
