Greece’s 24 licensees will be offered the chance to apply for new five year permits in exchange for a hefty €5 million fee, but which controversially still does not allow operators to offer random number-generated games – only sports betting and table games.
Furthermore, anyone currently blacklisted by the EEEP will not be eligible. Licensees will be required to run responsible gambling information on all pages of their sites; offer players the ability to set deposit limits and; intervene if customers display signs of problem gambling.
The regulations also include provisions for players to self-exclude for different periods. It will be operators’ obligation to check each player against the national database before taking bets. Other regulations cover advertising, geo-location and tight controls on bonuses.
Licences for sports betting alone stand at €4 million, and operators can add an additional €1 million to that if they want to offer table game as well.
A €500,000 guarantee is required as part of each licence application; all applicants must hold a licence in another EU state.
The EEEP has not yet confirmed when the new regime will launch.
