The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Crivella, said earlier this week that he could discuss with governor Wilson Witzel the transfer of the Sambódromo to the state of Rio. However, he wants to include in the negotiation package the return of the three hospitals that were municipalities: Rocha Faria, in Campo Grande; Pedro II, in Santa Cruz; and Albert Schweitzer in Realengo.
During Saturday of Carnival, the head of the state Executive expressed interest in the Sambódromo and said he thinks about resuming space. But the mayor of the city was clear in his comments: "Witzel is misinformed. He will not resume, he will ask for it; the Sambódromo belongs to the municipality, not to the State. Sure, we can talk, there's no problem.”
In the midst of this exchange of statements, Crivella also said that he plans to create the Tourism Secretariat. According to him, one of the projects that would be under the responsibility of the new portfolio is a feasibility study for the construction of an integrated resort, with hotels, shopping and casino, in the Porto Maravilha region.
"Rio de Janeiro needs to establish an integrated resort in the Port area, which includes the approval in Congress of a casino law," said the mayor.
"I expect it to be one casino in Brazil, not a whole liberation with machines in every corner. That is bad for our people. Why in Porto Maravilha? Because, although it is in Rio, Porto belongs to all Brazilians," concluded Crivella.
