São Paulo’s Secretary of Tourism received representative of Hard Rock International

Vinicius Lummertz, former Minister of Tourism of Brazil and current Secretary of Tourism of the State of São Paulo, was visited yesterday (20th) by Alex Pariente, representative of Hard Rock International. In the cordial 45-minute meeting, the Group showed interest in the Brazilian market to invest in the hotel, restaurant, show and casino areas, in case a suitable legal framework is established. For a long time, Lummertz supports the legalization of casinos within integrated resorts.

The visit of Hard Rock to Brazil demonstrates the interest in thenational market by the Group, which also met a few days ago with the governor of Santa Catarina, Carlos Moisés.

Alex Pariente made it clear that Hard Rock is interested in deepening its leadership in the hotel sector and maintains the expectation of having in the near future the possibility of investing in casinos as it already does in other parts of the world. For that, they await the legalization of the activity that provides the necessary legal security for any international company wishing to settle in Brazil.

The Tourism Secretary of São Paulo, an enthusiast of casinos resorts for Brazil, reaffirmed that he would welcome any important group that would bring investment to the country in the market seriously regulated, generating revenues, jobs and benefits. During his period as Tourism Minister in the government of former President Michel Temer, Vinicius Lummertz always defended the installation of casinos in Brazil as a source of investment, job creation and to increase the arrival of foreign tourists to the country. Since taking over the Tourism portfolio, he has raised the issue of gaming as an important source of investment, growth and development for tourism in the country.

"Brazil has the potential for this industry to double in size in a short time, but for this we have to reduce costs, take electronic visas to other countries, implement the licensing program for national and marine parks, favor historic cities and theme parks, not forgetting to advance in issues of foreign capital in airlines companies and the liberation of casinos," he said at the moment.

On other occasions, he has already defended the authorization of casinos in Brazil pointing out that the country could attract more than R$ 50 billion (US$ 11.6bn) in investments and income. "In all over the world casinos are allowed. Portugal has them and is all right. Brazil cannot be a bubble," he said.

Last month, the Secretary of Tourism of the State of São Paulo launched the book "Brazil: World Tourism Power", a work that brings together 22 authors to talk about the challenges of the country in search of a position of world power in the sector. Among the invited writers is Luiz Carlos Prestes Filho, who dedicates his text to the urgent need for regulation of gaming and its relation with the growth of tourism.
