President Pedro Guimarães’ plan

Caixa wants to expand services offered by lottery retailers

The president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, said that the financial institution intends to expand the services offered by lottery retailers and exclusive correspondents. In addition, Caixa negotiates a partnership with a credit and debit card machine company to place in those locations and, with this new initiative, increase the profitability of the business.

According to Guimarães, the financial institution loses R$ 1 billion (US$ 257m) per year for not owning or partnering with companies that provide this type of service. "[Caixa] is going to partner with existing machine company," he said, adding that the deal should be completed in two months.

Guimarães pointed out that Caixa currently has 13,000 lottery stores, with only 10% of them offering some kind of banking service. The exclusive banking correspondents, when providing some service of Caixa, are limited mainly to the real estate loan.

The president of the financial institution said that expanding the type of services offered by lottery retailers and exclusive correspondents will not be an imposition and that it is not true that there is a "relevant" security problem to prevent the increase of services offered in these security channels. "It is not true that there is a relevant safety problem," said Guimarães. "There is no imposition. It's a conversation," he said.

In the process of expanding the services offered by lottery stores, Guimarães said that there could be a bid for new franchisees. But this will be defined in the future, because first will be negotiated to expand the services offered and then know if it will be necessary to raise the number of franchisees.
