"The activity of casinos is subject to acceptance and approval in the Brazil’s Congress"

The Tourism Commission of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies approved on Tuesday (16) the request 39/2019 by the Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr (MDB / MG) for the appointment of members and officials of the Commission to participate in benchmarking action on tourism, historical heritage and gaming, to be held next April 28 to May 4, 2019, in Lisbon - Portugal. During the debate, the deputies of the commission supported the installation of casinos in the country for the development of regional tourism.

During the debate, Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr, president of the Tourism Commission, said that the casinos topic is well-seen and able to be approved not only in the Chamber, but throughout Congress, but defended that the installation of the activity can not benefit only large urban centers.

"There is no resistance. The momentary difficulty is identifying which is the best law text, the legal format, and even a geographical issue about the implementation of casinos in Brazil again. Of course, we have the difficulties of the related issues of other gambling activities that are in the wake of the casinos discussion, but casino activity itself seems, in general, in the House and in the whole Congress, acceptable and for approval,” Cardoso Jr. said.

“I am particularly in favor of it, but I also understand that there is a need to regionalize development from this opportunity. What is expected in terms of collection, job creation, investments in the country, is extremely relevant and letting that only large centers are the object of interest in this sector seems to me that could lead to a higher concentration of income and thereby avoiding that the opportunity to bring development to various regions of the country was exploited," he concluded.

Speaking about Newton Cardoso Jr. statement, Deputy Pedro Augusto Bezerra (PTB/CE) took the opportunity to exemplify what the congressman said, citing the region of Cariri in the state of Ceará, which has a strong tourist appeal on the religious and scientific side. He mentioned that the region can also benefit from the gaming sector to draw more national and international visitors. "It is important to leave this hypocrisy aside and begin to see the possibility of this activity to generate dividends to the states and municipalities," Bezerra said.

Another highlight of the session was the request of Deputy Bibo Nunes (PSL/RS) to participate in the commission that will travel to Portugal, since he is one of the defenders of the gaming activity and the installation of casinos. Nunes praised members of the commission and said they were Spartan soldiers fighting for tourism growth.
