Joint Parliamentary Front for Regulatory Approval

Deputies Renata Abreu and Delegado Pablo to work for gaming release in Brazil

The proposal for the regulation of the gaming market in Brazil began to be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, which includes the operation of casinos, bookmakers and other betting modalities. The discussion is part of the Joint Parliamentary Front for Regulatory Approval, which brought together dozens of parliamentarians, among them the deputy from the Amazonas, Delegado Pablo Oliva, and the federal deputy Renata Abreu, who presides the Podemos party.

According to the deputy, who was chosen president of the parliamentary Front, the gaming activity in Brazil has been around for a long time, but operating in the marginality. "Today, the only beneficiary from gaming is the organized crime, which moves fortunes and invests in the purchase of weapons and drug trafficking," said Oliva.

Proponents of the regulation say the measure will allow the generation of a new form of employment, with skilled workers, catering to tourists and thousands of other jobs linked to hotels, restaurants, transportation and shows.

Another advantage will be the generation of taxes, which can be divided between municipalities, states and the Union. "Everyone wins," he added.

During the meeting, parliamentarians cited the city of Las Vegas, in the United States, where the activity is released. According to deputies, the city was born and grew thanks to gaming, which is carried out in accordance with strict rules to avoid tax evasion and, above all, to move the economy of the State of Nevada. Today, Las Vegas is the fastest growing city in the United States, according to Forbes magazine.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Oliva pledged to seek support from the other deputies of the Amazon region so that the proposed regulation can gain strength in the Federal Chamber. "I know it's a controversial proposal, so we need to talk to politicians and society to explain the benefits of regulation," he said.

For her part, the federal deputy Renata Abreu, who presides the Podemos party at a national level, also participated in the launch of the Parliamentary Front in Favor of the Regulatory Framework of the Gaming, which will work to legalize all the betting activity in Brazil.

The parliamentarian is one of the enthusiasts of the proposal, since she presented, in 2015, a bill in the Chamber of Deputies aimed at regulating this type of entertainment in the country. According to her, Brazil is going through a difficult time and the public power cannot close its eyes to an activity that will significantly move the country's economy.

"Brazil today has about 14 million unemployed people. The activity moves around R$ 60 million (US$ 15m) annually. With the regulation we could generate 650 thousand direct jobs and 600 thousand indirect ones. In the US the activity is already regularized and in full operation for years," commented Abreu.
