75% in favor

Strong support to gaming legalization in Brazil in a BandNews radio survey

BandNews FM radio released this Thursday (16th) a survey on Twitter with the question 'Are you in favor of the liberation of casinos and bingos in Brazil?' With 3025 votes, 75% declared themselves in favor of the legalization of the activity. The initiative generated wide repercussion, to the point of Deputy Bacelar, president of the new Parliamentary Front for the approval of the Regulatory Framework of Gaming in the House also leaving a comment in the post.

The poll, which opened at 8:54 am on Thursday and was online for 24 hours, closed with 3025 people answering the question "Are you in favor of the liberation of casinos and bingos in Brazil?". The YES answer (Favorable to liberation) had 75% of the votes (2269), while the answer NO (Contrary to Liberation) was the choice of only 25% (756) of Internet users.

In addition to the significant number of votes, the post of the survey had great repercussion among the followers of BandNews FM Radio. So far, the publication has had 39 retweets, 91 “likes” and 62 comments. The radio profile has 746,000 followers.

Among the comments, Deputy Bacelar, president of the new Parliamentary Front for the approval of the Regulatory Framework of Gaming installed last week in the Chamber of Deputies, emphasized the economic importance of the activity. "The legalization of the gaming sector will generate jobs, taxes and economic growth," he said.

The idea for the poll came during Band News FM’s show broadcast live throughout Brazil conducted by journalists Eduardo Barão, Carla Bigatto and André Coutinho. In a conection from Rio de Janeiro, journalist Rodolfo Schneider told the audience the story of the emergence of the “jogo do bicho”, one of the most popular games -and also prohibited- in Brazil. From the repercussion of this story, it was decided to open the poll on Twitter.

This is not the first survey of public opinion that indicates the support of the population to the legalization of gaming in Brazil. In 2017, a poll of 22,000 votes conducted by the website Vota na Web showed that 61% of people favored legalizing the activity. As early as 2018 Data Senado, official organ of the Federal Senate, asked Internet users what should happen to the exploration of gambling in Brazil. The final result showed that 86% believed that the activity should be allowed, against 14% who stated that it should remain prohibited.
