Brazilian deputy wants to put a ceiling of US$ 26 millons to Mega-Sena lottery

Through the presentation of PL Bill 2981/2019, Deputy Chiquinho Brazão asked to amend Decree-Law no. 6,259, dated February 10, 1944, which provides for lottery services and provides other measures to establish the ceiling of R$ 105 million (US$ 26m) for the Mega-Sena awards and that, in case there is no winner in the six numbers draw, the prize amount will be fully distributed among those who hit “quina” modality.

The purpose of the deputy's proposal is to democratize and socialize the prizes of the Mega-Sena. "Our proposal establishes that the maximum prize of the Mega-Sena will correspond to 30 million times the value of the bet of six numbers, which today is of R$ 3.50 (US$ 0.85) and equivalent to approximately R$ 105 million (US$ 26m). The amount that exceeds this limit will be distributed among those who hit the ‘quina” modality," proposes Brazão.

"It is certain that the collected values would be better used if they contemplated a greater number of people, which is fully reconcilable with the maintenance of the attractiveness of the main prize. Thus, we understand that the increase in the prizes for the second placed when the Mega-Sena prize reaches R$ 105 million (US$ 26m) or when there is no bet on the ‘sena’ modality, will increase the number of bettors, because they will see their chances of gain increased", assures the deputy of AVANTE / RJ.

The formal request of PL Bill 2981/2019:

The National Congress decrees:

Art. 1 Decree-Law No. 6,259 of February 10, 1944, which provides for lottery services and other provisions, shall become effective as follows:

I - The amount surplus to this amount will be allocated in the immediately lower range of awards, destined to the bets with hit of five numbers drawn.

II - When the prize reaches the amount set forth in the caput and there is no winner in the draw of six numbers, the amount collected will be fully distributed in the immediately lower range of awards, destined to bets with five numbers drawn.
