Finally, IGT/SG consortium did not participate

No company makes an offer for LOTEX and the auction is postponed again

The deadline that companies had to submit offers for the Instant Lottery of Brazil ended on Monday afternoon. Once again, there were no interested parties and the auction was postponed without a defined date. The Government anticipated that it will dialogue again with the market to determine the next steps to follow.

The auction of the Exclusive Instant Lottery (LOTEX), which was scheduled for Tuesday (28), has been delayed due to lack of interested parties. The proposals should have been made until Monday (27).

Until the last moment it was speculated that the consortium integrated by the big companies of the sector, IGT and Scientific Games, would present an offer due to the repeated consultations that they did to the Ministry of Economy. However, they decided not to participate by disagreeing with some business guidelines that did not allow them to make a high investment at this level.

The dispute over LOTEX has been postponed successively. In recent months, for example, the auction has already been scheduled for April 26 and May 9.

"In the absence of proposals, the government will dialogue with the market and evaluate the alternatives available to decide the next steps, based on the premise of opening up the market and implementing competition in the national lottery sector," said the special PPI secretariat (Investment Partnerships Program).

Caixa Econômica Federal expects to raise R$ 100 billion (US$ 25bn) in the capital market through the sale of LOTEX and other assets. In addition to the lottery, the state-owned bank wants to get rid of the card, security and asset management divisions.

The studies for the sale of Lotex began in August 2017, and the announcement was approved in September of last year.
