André Gelfi, Suaposta CEO

"I am very optimistic that regulation of the betting sector is to come in Brazil"

Road to BGC 20109, Games Magazine Brasil as an official event media continues to offer its series of interviews to introduce the speakers and provide an advance of their talks. André Gelfi, CEO of Suaposta, talks about the perspective of the new regulation from the vision of a local operator, pioneer and already licensed in Brazil. 'I expect transparency in the process, very clear rules, and serenity to balance the interests of government, operators and society,' says Gelfi.

GMB - Tell us about your participation in BGC 2019 ... what topics will you talk about?
André Gelfi : I'm going to talk about the perspective of a local operator, pioneer, already licensed in Brazil.

Could you give us a brief advance on the content of your exhibit?
I will report on our experience in the local set-up, the day-to-day operation and the challenges I see ahead.

Is Suaposta waiting to know the regulations that the Ministry of Economy prepares for the sport betting business with great expectation? What would you consider would be the best system: licenses, concessions or monopoly?
Given the experience accumulated by our regulators over the years, and the current orientation of the Brazilian government regarding the role of the State in society, I am particularly optimistic about the regulation that is to come. I look forward to attractive conditions to attract substantial investment in the development of a competitive and sustainable onshore market.

If you could give SECAP three advices that for you are indispensable for the success of the business; what would they be?
Transparency in the process, very clear rules, and serenity to balance the interests of government, operators and society.

Tell us a little more about Suaposta ... what services do you offer and how would the company benefit from a good regulation? Does it have a differential to compete with leading international websites if they arrive to Brazil?
Suaposta is the first and only Brazilian operator of sports betting, already licensed in Brazil. Our partnership with the Jockey Club of Rio Grande do Sul allows us to market bets on horse racing around the world.

A balanced regulation would allow us to expand our betting offer for other sporting events. We are already here, we have a local company, customized platform, local ways of payment, several team licenses, and mainly local experience. We have already made mistakes in years of operation. The assembly of the work undoubtedly has its value.

How is the Brazilian bettor according to your vision and the behavior you see on your site?
We have different profiles and motivations, which result in different behaviors and needs. Today we have a small business, where our differential is almost personalized service. Our great challenge will be to scale without losing this differential, which in the long run is perhaps the most important.

How do you see the fast growth of betting firms as sponsors in Brazilian football? Did Suaposta do such an action at some point?
At the moment it is not our priority. As we are licensed in Brazil we prioritize to work in partnership with Google and Facebook Brazil.

Do you consider that these kinds of events like the one organized by Clarion are useful for the sector?
Absolutely, after all we are in a "new" market where there is a significant lack of knowledge, from Brazil in relation to the betting industry, and betting industry in relation to Brazil.
