Sergio Jardim, General Director of Clarion Events Brazil

"Audience and companies participating at BgC have strong interest in online gaming and sports betting”

Four days before a new edition of the Brazilian Gaming Congress (BgC) in Sau Paulo, the main event of the growing Brazilian market, GMB talked to Sergio Jardim, General Director of Clarion Events Brasil about the news and expectations. He hopes that the strong interest in sports betting will be the starting point that will warm up the discussions about the complete legalization of the gaming sector. 'The presence of Hard Rock and Caesars highlights the potential of the Brazilian market for the world's major players,' he says.

GMB: Tell us about the new features of this year at BgC 2019? What are your expectations?
Sergio Jardin: The 2019 edition of the Brazilian Gaming Congress (BgC) contemplates discussions about all gaming modalities. The great news of this edition is the strong public interest in online gaming and sports betting, verticals that have gained relevance thanks to the specific law approval last December. Our expectation is that the movement of the sector also warms the discussion of the other gaming modalities.

This year many new companies that trust in the new Brazilian market joined the event at sponsors level.  It seems to be the most relevant edition of the event history, isn’t it?
The BgC 2019 maintains once again a strong participation of national and international sponsors and exhibitors, with a significant presence of companies dedicated to sports betting and online gaming.

The number of sessions has been reduced, but now they are much more punctual in relation to the topics of greatest interest. Is this correct?
Given the relevance of the topics, we concentrated the panels and lectures in a single stage with more than 40 authorities and specialists of the sector.
The session about casinos has two first level groups like Hard Rock and Caesars. It is an honor for Brazil to count on them. The casino subject is of great importance for the development of the gaming sector in Brazil. The presence of Hard Rock and Caesars highlights the potential of the Brazilian market for the world's major players.

This year, unlike the others where there were rumors but no confirmations, we already have the novelty of the legalization of sports betting. Do you think it will be the hottest and most interesting subject of this year’s BgC?
With the approval of the law in December 2018 and the beginning of the work of the regulation framework by the Ministry of Economy, the sports betting theme reaches maximum relevance. The movement of the sector is clear and both the BgC programming and the exposure reflect this scenario.

Have you noticed a growth in registrations interested in participating this year? Will new companies from different parts of the world send representatives?
The proposed agenda has attracted great interest from companies worldwide and in particular from Latin America.

After his absence in Juegos Miami, we it is very expected the presence of Alexandre Manoel, a representative of the Ministry of Economy, to talk about LOTEX and the regulation of sports betting. Do you think there could be important announcements?
Alexandre Manoel is our featured guest in this issue. There is great expectation about updates on LOTEX and Sports Betting.

Is there still time to sign up to participate? What should interested do?
Yes, the registrations can still be made by phone: +55 11 3893-1336 or by email: [email protected] .
