In a quick vote, the deputies chose Evandro Roman and Domingos Neto to lead the work of the new subcommittee. Both congressmen were the only candidates that disputed the election and were elected with 4 votes each.
The initiative of the Special Subcommittee on Online Betting is from Congressman Evandro Roman (PSD-PR). The group should discuss the exploration and practice of sports betting on the internet. According to him, it is estimated that the unregulated part of the online gaming market in Brazil could be worth more than R$ 5 billion (US$ 1.3bn).
Since last year, legislation (Law No. 13,756 / 19) has considered the betting and online gaming market as a legal sector. The Ministry of Economy, however, has a two-year term to regulate the granting of the right to exploit the activity, as well as set rules for anyone who wants to exploit the industry.
