BgC opening cocktail shows expectations on the Brazilian market

As traditionally happens on Sunday night before the beginning of the panels and sessions of the Brasilian Gaming Congress, the talks on virtually every group were about the imminent regulation of the gaming sector in Brazil. More than 150 guests enjoyed a good time outdoors in the Tivoli Hotel, in São Paulo, where they exchanged opinions in a friendly meeting between colleagues and friends of the local and international gaming industry.

People attending yesterday’s cocktail no longer talked about "if" Brazil would authorize the gaming sector, but "when" it will happen. As all the uncertainties about the mood of the National Congress and the federal government are the calendar flag of what happens in the country, it is expected that the opening will happen at any time after the definitions of the pension reform.

"We can see that the Brazilian Congress today listens to the industry, especially online, in a much more attentive way with the ears of those who really want to understand the industry. So, I think this event is complementary to what happened in Brasilia a few weeks ago in that public meeting about gaming," says Witoldo Héndrich Jr, Chief Legal Officer of Online IPS and Founder of Hendric Advogados.

The industry is aware that the country needs the investments and taxes that the different types of games can offer and, therefore, everyone was unanimous in affirming that soon the sector as a whole will be regulated. The approval at the end of the year of sports betting has animated the sector and even more the businessmen who have attended BgC’s cocktail.

For two days experts will discuss with each other and with government officials, agents of control and regulators the possibilities that the sector has to offer for the Brazilian economy. Games Magazine Brasil will bring it all first-hand to our readers.

"We have a very positive expectation about this year's event, especially since Brazil has approved in December the sports betting law. That is, we are not talking about something illegal but about an important issue that needs rules," said Sergio Jardim, General Manager of Clarion Brazil to Games Magazine Brasil.

According to him, the country has attracted the attention of operators worldwide and such rules will be discussed with experts and with the Ministry of Economy so that the country becomes one of the great players of the sector. "Although the BgC this year will discuss other types of games such as casinos, responsible gambling and other related issues, sports betting is the subject of the time precisely by the approval of the activity," Jardim added.

"I think the event has more people this year, there is information that there is more interest in this event than there was in the past years, and it has a lot to do with the approval of the sports betting law and what the Congress is developing, like the public hearing that took place last May. Of course, we have a renewed interest in listening to the industry and try to move forward. This event will be a surprise in terms of content and audience," commented Rui Magalhães, CEO of Casino Estoril Sol.
