Deputy Herculano Passos opened the BgC 2019

"The environment in Brasilia is very favorable for the regulation of the gaming sector"

The opening of the 6th Brazilian Gaming Congress featured a welcome speech by Federal Deputy Herculano Passos, a historic advocate of the gaming industry as a tool for the development of tourism in Brazil. 'Currently, 200,000 Brazilians travel abroad to play in casinos. Also, sports betting needs to be regulated urgently to strengthen sports entities,' said Passos.

In his presentation, Passos made an explanation about the ban on gambling in the country and recalled that "currently, we have two projects underway in the National Congress, one in the House and another in the Senate. The project in the Chamber, of which I participated, is already ready to be voted in Plenary, lacking only the political will to make that happen."

"Currently, 200,000 Brazilians travel abroad to play. Casino generates tax and employment directly and still moves the entire economy around. In Las Vegas, 70% of the income is from non-gambling activities," explained the deputy.

Passos presented the main points included in this project for the operation of casinos, demonstrating that in their elaboration, the issue of the balanced division of casinos by state, the importance of establishing mechanisms against money laundering and various aspects were taken into account so that casinos become a serious economic activity, respected and beneficial to the whole country.

"In the Senate, it is expected to resume the PLS discussions of Senator Ciro Nogueira, who has been standing since the Constitution and Justice Commission did not approve the report on the bill. Sports betting needs to be urgently regulated to strengthen sports entities," he added.

According to the parliamentarian, his action in defense of the gaming sector has much to do with the actions he carries out to strengthen the municipalities. "I lead the Joint Parliamentary Front of the Municipalities, where we do serious work in search of mechanisms to strengthen municipalities and, on this front, I also placed on the agenda the approval of the gaming sector in Brazil, as it will be beneficial for municipalities that are contemplated with casinos."
