Betgenius and Sportradar analyzed the market situation in Brazil and Latin America

On the final day of Juegos Miami, the panel 'Leap into LatAm: Launching an online operation in a new jurisdiction' brought together specialists such as Alonso Jibaja, Business Development Manager for Latin America at Betgenius, and Mateo Lenoble, LatAm Sales Director at Sportradar, among others. There, they evaluated the advantages and risks of the operators to invest in a new Brazilian market, still unregulated.

The panel was moderated by Mauro de Fabritiis, founder partner at MDF Partners, and completed by Victor Araneda, Business Development Manager International at Gaming1; Jason Rosenberg, CEO of American Gaming Solutions; Lina Gallego, Manager of Luckia, Colombia; and Sujit Lahiry, Executve Director, Skilrock Technologies.

For Jibaja, "it is necessary to have a transparent sports betting market in order to protect the integrity of the game. We, as data providers, as Betgenius, know who we give our data to and only work with regulated markets."

"There is a matter to be considered: the sponsors. It has been seen in Europe, by sponsoring massively, that can affect the vulnerable, the minors and that should be seen by the regulators to avoid it in the future. I think there should be some way to control the operators," Jibaja added in his dissertation.

"The sponsorship of sports clubs is a traditional method in Europe that is now very popular in South America. It is successful because it is a profitable formula, which brings a return on investment and gives the operator the possibility of having a direct presence with its players who are the fans of each club," he also said.

"This marketing method is attractive, but there also begins the price war because all the operators look for clubs, they fight in a process where each one must offer more and more money. I think they should reach a consensus among the operators to keep the ecosystem and the level of values of that war stable," Jibaja concluded.

For his part, Lenoble believes that "when it comes to regulating if you can start with sports betting is an important step, but you cannot ignore the rest of the gaming modalities."

"It is important that Brazil regulates sports betting. Sometimes it is good to start regulating by sector, but other types of games of chance should not be ignored," said the Sportradar representative consulted on the Brazilian case.

"It is difficult to decide to invest so much money when the rules are not clear. Nobody wants to invest a sum of money in a market where illegal people get the same benefit. And that happens in Brazil today," Lenoble added.

"The license must be granted to the operator and can be exploited through the gaming platforms. The online market is highly competitive, where the user decides why they will choose a betting house or another," concluded Lenoble.
