Brazil’s government launches Electronic Public Consultation for sports betting regulation

Through the Official Union’s Gazette, The Secretary for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery, Alexandre Manoel Angelo Da Silva, it becomes public that the entity will conduct an Electronic Public Consultation in order to gather contributions for the regulation of Fixed Odds Sport Betting in the country. The consultation includes a list of 7 questions (the participant will be able to address just the topics of interest) and will be available at www.economia.gov.br until August 31st.

The public consultation aims to collect subsidies for the actions of the Ministry of Economy in the regulation of Fixed Odds Betting, pursuant to Chapter V, Law No. 13,756, of December 12, 2018.

Such regulation is underway, coordinated by the Secretariat of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (Secap) of the Special Secretariat of Finance of the Ministry of Economy, and seeks to establish a regulatory model aligned with the best world practices, which provides a competitive environment for the lottery industry, in accordance with current legislation. It also seeks a regulatory model that addresses issues essential to the future operation of the public service, with the adoption of modern practices of safety, integrity, accountability, corporate social responsibility, fraud and money laundering prevention.

Thus, Secretariat invites citizens to submit their contributions by completing a questionnaire, or their perceptions and additional suggestions related to the topic of this Consultation.

The Public Consultation Contributions Form includes a questionnaire with questions related to the regulation of fixed odds betting. The participant may address only the topics of interest.

Contributions received will be consolidated, answered by Secap and published on the official website of the Ministry of Economy (www.economia.gov.br) and may be sent between 07/30/2019 and 08/31/2019.
