Opened by Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, president of the FPF, the seminar brought together lawyers, managers, journalists and professionals from São Paulo clubs, as well as officially launching the new ‘Integrity Booklet’.
“Betting is a reality both inside and outside the country, and there is currently no control. Therefore, the law dealing with this issue needs regulation. We need to learn from examples from other countries, always prioritizing the integrity of competitions,” said Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos.
This Tuesday, the federal government began public consultation to regulate the operation of bookmakers in Brazil. The consultation runs until August 31 and is open to clubs, bookmakers, entities and fans. According to the government, Brazilian gamblers moved R$ 4 billion (US$ 1bn) on foreign sites last year.
During the seminar, the Integrity Booklet of the São Paulo Football Federation was launched aimed at combating sport fraud. It is a manual to combat corruption, manipulation of results, harassment, abuse, doping and racism among other unsportsmanlike attitudes that stains the entire football community.
As pointed out by Carneiro Bastos, it is a challenge for all involved to combat these negative practices. “It is a problem that must be faced by all professionals and entities involved in our sport. Monitoring suspicious movements and attitudes and collaborating with investigations into police operations are steps that the FPF has already inserted into its routine,” said the president.
