Deputy Herculano Passos honors Ciro Batelli, calls for casinos legalization in Brazil

During a session of the Federal Chamber last week, Deputy Herculano Passos (MDB-SP), president of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of Tourism, recalled Paulista businessman Ciro Batelli, who recently died in Las Vegas at the age of 85. “Ciro was an omnipotent figure on the wheels of São Paulo society, a leader of the Caesars casino hotel chain and a pioneer in raising the legalization of gaming in Brazil,” said Passos.

At the session, the deputy asked for the floor to honor Batelli, who was one of Las Vegas' most important ambassadors for Brazilian tourists and investors. His performance in Las Vegas began to intensify from 1966, when Caesars Palace was built.

Since then, Batelli began to study the casino theme by hobby and became an expert. Because he likes gaming so much, he wished that one day it would be possible to open casinos in Brazil as well, becoming chairman of the casino opening committee in the country in the 1970s.

He worked as a reporter for several TV shows and was director of special projects for the Amaury Jr. Program at Rede TV and Domingão do Faustão at TV Globo. He lived in Las Vegas, being an expert when it came to bingo and casinos. Former CEO of Caesars Group, he has been considered one of the top authorities in casinos worldwide. Las Vegas honored him by putting his name on one of the city's streets. He has also worked as a reporter on several TV shows.

Batelli was a member of the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce. As always promoted the city of Las Vegas around the world believing that the best entertainment destination was in Nevada. He reported that his heart was divided between Brazil and the United States. The world of casinos was part of his life. Working with Vips clients, he had many unusual moments with the biggest celebrities. His personal credibility has greatly helped to consolidate his professional career.

During the session, Passos took the opportunity to reiterate his position in favor of regulating the operation of casinos in the country.

“I would like to say here that, as president of the Parliamentary Front for Tourism, I understand that it is past time for us to legalize the casinos in Brazil, to generate employment, development and, of course, bring progress to our nation,” he said.
