Jordan Gnat in Brasilia

VP of The Stars Group meets at the Brazilian Ministry of Economy for sports betting

The Stars Group, owner of PokerStars and Full Tilt among other leading international gaming brands such as Sky Betting & Gaming and BetEasy (merger of CrownBet and William Hill Australia), strongly targets the new Brazilian sports betting market. His VP, Jordan Gnat, requested an audience with the Ministry of Economy and the meeting will take place today in Brasilia. Gnat, Alexandre Manoel and Waldir Marques (both from SECAP) and representatives of the local consultant BMJ will participate in the reunion.

Although the plans of The Stars Group in the country were not disclosed, it is speculated that the company's VP will transmit to the Ministry of Economy its intention to work with its brands in Brazil and, at the same time, know better the current status of the new regulation for the sector.

Surely at the meeting, Gnat will also expose his vision on what would be the needs of The Stars Group to invest in the country taking into account that SECAP itself recently opened a public consultation where it precisely asks for opinion on which would be the best regulation model for Brazil.

The ones that participates in the meeting are Alexandre Manoel Angelo Da Silva (Secretary of Planning, Energy and Lottery); Waldir Eustáquio Marques (Undersecretary of SECAP / ME); Jordan Gnat (VP of The Stars Group); and representatives of BMJ, Brazilian trade consultancy International, Government Relations, Tax Analysis, Strategic Communication and Regulatory Affairs. Gnat advisers at the meeting are Juliano Griebeler (BMJ Director) and Ammar Hassan (BMJ Consultant).

In Argentina, The Stars Group has partnered with Atlantica de Juegos to obtain a license in the province of Buenos Aires and compete with other companies in the bidding process.

The Group has a multiyear partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) that has made The Stars Group an authorized NBA game operator in the US. The partnership was the first of the game operator with a professional sports league in the country.

Last May, Fox Corporation paid US$ 236 million for a 4.99% stake in The Stars Group, the largest media deal within the still-nascent sportsbook market in the United States.

The deal resulted in the launch of the Fox Bet sports betting platform in the second half of 2019. “This strategic partnership uniquely positions us to build a leading US betting business,” said Rafi Ashkenazi, CEO of The Stars Group.

The Stars Group, which paid US$ 3.5 billion for Sky Betting and Gaming last year, has thus gained an exclusive license to use certain trademarks of Fox Sports.
