Luiz Felipe Maia spoke about Brazil in panel dedicated to Latin America at IMGL 2019

Brazilian lawyer Luiz Felipe Maia participated yesterday (12th) in Munich, Germany, in a panel on the current state of gaming regulation in Latin America. There was great interest from those present in sports betting, especially in Brazil, with a general concern about the option to tax turnover instead of GGR. Today, Maia ends his participation in the event leading an exclusive round table to inform the latest news of the Brazilian market.

The IMGL Autumn Conference 2019 takes place this week (September 11 to 13) in Munich, Germany. FYMSA lawyer spoke at the panel about LatAm moderated by Santiago Asensi (Partner of Asensi Abogados, Spain) with Tomas Garcia Botta (Partner of Masot & Frettes Abogados from Buenos Aires, Argentina), Francesco Rodano (Chief Policy Officer of Playtech, UK) and Dr. Benjamin Pule (Head of Regulatory Compliance, Greentube, Malta).

“What are the latest developments in these and other Latin American jurisdictions? In general terms, are the LatAm attractive jurisdictions for international stakeholders, or these jurisdictions can only be attractive for local companies due to its bureaucratic difficulties?,” are some of the questions that have been debated in the panel where Maia spoke about the regulation of sports betting in Brazil.

"This is the second time I have been invited to speak at an IMGL event and it is a great honor to have been the first Brazilian to be accepted as a General Member in 2014. It is an excellent opportunity to learn and exchange experiences and information with lawyers and regulators from various countries in an environment of eminently technical discussions," the lawyer explained to Games Magazine Brasil.

Maia also stressed the importance of such a relevant event in the European market as IMGL, opening space to talk about Brazil. "Brazil is a huge market with great potential for both sports betting and casinos, both physical and online. European operators, as well as US and Asian, look to Brazil as a great opportunity."

"Given the volume of contributions received by the public consultation of sports betting, which exceeded 1,500 participations, and various contacts received in recent weeks, the expectation for the round table today is of a very qualified and numerous public," concludes the lawyer.
