“We have to focus on four measures to get Tourism off the ground in Brazil. The first is the refund of taxes paid by tourists on purchases, already approved last May. But we also have to channel energy into creating special areas of tourist interest, such as a Tourism Free Zone, and regulating the gaming sector, something that would cause even more interest from travelers from other countries,” said Newton.
The leader of the Tourism Commission also took the time to praise the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, with whom he revealed to have a very close friendship. Both are born in Minas Gerais.
The importance of close human contact in conveying information and emotions was emphasized as fundamental in tourism, as corporate travel was highlighted as a driving force for the economy. Newton also called for more public-private partnerships, especially on issues such as education and training.
