Deputies Herculano Passos y Bacelar head seminar on gaming legalization in Brasilia

Brazilian Representatives Herculano Passos (PSD-SP) and Deputy Bacelar (PODE-BA) are the hosts of the seminar 'Gaming Legalization in a New Scenario' that will be held on September 18, at 9:am, in the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia. The event is a promotion of the Joint Parliamentary Front for Tourism Defense and the Joint Parliamentary Front for the Framework Approval. 'We are at a better time for the approval of this agenda,' deputy Passos told GMB.

The purpose of the meeting is to debate the regulation of the gambling sector in Brazil through Bill 442/91. Among the guests are the Secretary of the Special Committee on Sports Law, Lotteries and Entertainment of the Brazilian Bar, Daniel Homem de Carvalho, the president of the Brazilian Federation of Lodging and Food (FBHA), Alexandre Sampaio, and the president of the Brazilian Institute of Legal Gaming (IJL), Magno Jose.

“We want to shed more light on the topic, provide more clarification to parliamentarians and the population and mobilize the National Congress to vote on the proposals that deal with the legalization of the gaming sector. The name of the seminar talks about 'new scenario', because we are at a more favorable moment for the approval of this agenda,” says Deputy Herculano Passos.

Passos explains that Brazil is in great need of new revenue to get out of the financial crisis and the federal government has already understood that the gaming sector has a great potential to generate this extra money. “Everywhere there is a casino or clandestine bingo moving billions that is not collected by the government as taxes.”

“In addition, the people who work in these places, as well as those who play, are in total illegality, without any guaranteed labor rights. Legalizing the sector is to make it all official, with rules, taxes, and a huge generation of money for our country,” adds the deputy.
