"Betting is a very strong trend but it has a long way to go due to the regulatory barrier"

In the first episode of the second season of MKTEsportivoCast, Eduardo Esteves talked about sports marketing trends for 2020 with Rafael Plastina, executive with 18 years of experience in the market and founder of Sport Track and Score Sport, companies that work in intelligence and strategic planning through sport. One of the issues was the growing sports betting market in Brazil.

The estimate made last year was the entry of R$ 100 million (US$ 24m) only in the Serie A of the Brasileirão 2020. Today, there are none of the ten largest betting companies in the world sponsoring Brazilian clubs. "The stakes will increase the amounts invested in sports, especially football," according to MKTEsportivoCast interviewer Eduardo Esteves.

Despite the strong investment, the big companies in the industry are still waiting to enter the scenario. Smaller firms, which have the capital to enter new markets, are exploiting and building the brand and betting vision in Brazil while the regulations are not approved.

For Sport Track and Score Sport founder Rafael Plastina, “it is only natural that the big players do not enter the market. They can arrive after regulation, better understanding which way the Brazilian market goes. They have privileged data; they know the market potential. ”

“Regulation is a barrier. On the other hand, betting is a reality. There are many Brazilians who bet on foreign sites using international credit cards,” analyzes Plastina.

He stresses the importance of doing educational work so that people understand what gambling is and that a platform in this industry is not meant to forge the game. "On the contrary, it is a defender, it has a lot of investments to prevent some kind of hit, game delivery," he argues.

“It's a very strong trend, but it has a long way to go. I see that this activity is still a little embryonic. There is a way ahead, but it is already real, there are already investments in the sector,” he concludes.
