Brazilian eSports Confederation’s president foresees 2020 as a decisive year for the country

Daniel Cossi, President of the Brazilian Confederation of Electronic Sports (CBDEL), said in an interview with O Popular newspaper that he believes that 2020 will be a decisive year for casinos, online gaming and eSports in Brazil. For him, this is a year in which anything can happen due to the recent advances in the management and business model of these different entertainment areas.

The encouraging scenario seen by Cossi is also the result of years of discussions on the topic, both in the political and business spheres. Proof of this are the intense debates generated around the universe of betting since the enactment of Law 13.756 / 18, which basically legalizes sports betting in Brazil, and which is now moving towards its regulation.

About this, it is also important to point out that, even without regulation, the sports betting market grew exponentially in the country in 2019, also raising the need for analytical platforms that seek to improve the user experience.

Examples like this, for Cossi, prove that 2019 was an excellent driver for the expansion of these niches in 2020. “I believe that taking into account the entire political scenario, which […] moves the regulations and laws on which we are 100% dependent, the conversations, discussions and definitions were quick, and this shows us many positive things, especially with regard to put this to be carried out in practice and leave the middle of negotiations and ideas,” he declared.

Such modifications, according to him, help to consolidate Brazil as one of the main countries in the world in online gaming, casinos and eSports, creating the perfect context for investments and the creation of new businesses in the area.

“One of the largest, if not the largest, markets that already leads the emergence of the online games, casinos and eSports market in the world. Those who are in congruence and participating in this emerging market in any way, whether actively in networking and promoting business opportunities and related activities, whether in regulation or legislation, will certainly have a large share of business possibilities and other opportunities inherent in this avant-garde,” concluded Daniel.

Highlight for eSports

Among the niches mentioned by Cossi, it is likely that the universe of eSports will be the one that grows the most in 2020. This should happen, explained the president of CBDEL, because the regulation of this area is being made, especially with a focus on in athletes and not in the market.

Among the transformations expected for this year, it is possible to mention a greater democratization of electronic sports, a result of the success of mobile games, such as Free Fire. With that, these games also begin to enter the competitive scenario, which promises to be a real game changer for the sport.

This expansion should also reach the female audience in a particular way, which, even if it matches the male audience, is still not as represented in professional championships. In addition, the experience of women continues to be hampered by machismo.

According to a survey conducted by the University of Ohio, in the United States, 100% of women who play at least 22 hours a week reported having suffered some form of harassment. These experiences even make girls more likely to show symptoms of depression than boys.

Thinking about it, there are already campaigns in order to transform this reality. An example is the #MyGameMyName initiative. In it, male players are challenged to play matches with female names so that they can more clearly perceive the problem and feel the abuses that women suffer daily.
