Argentine province of Mendoza approved law that regulates online gambling

The Senate of Mendoza, in Argentina, approved the project that regulates online betting in the province, by which only up to seven websites will be allowed to offer the Internet gambling service, while the rest will be blocked in provincial territory. Now, it is only awaiting the promulgation of the Executive Power to enter into force.

According to the new regulation, permits will be tendered for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 7 bidders who may have websites for online gambling, provided that they are based in the province and their websites have the ".ar" domain.

In the same way, a register of local gamblers will be created, where minors or people with tax debts can’t be included. In addition, users will be able to access the self-exclusion registry at any time, so that they can be assisted within the Responsible Gaming program.

The initiative is an accumulation of the projects of Senators Marcelo Rubio and Mercedes Rus, and it already had the approval of the Chamber of Deputies, where modifications were introduced, and then returned to the Senate.

Rus explained what the modifications proposed by Deputies consist of: "Article 6 proposed that the Institute may grant a maximum of seven licenses. The second modification, which is very technical, is given in article 9, which is related to the issue of IP address. I understand that what was approved by Deputies is reasonable. It is necessary that this be able to have control. I ask this body that the initiative obtain definitive sanction."

According to the new regulations, a Register of Online Gaming Qualifying Titles will be created, which will be public and accessible, and will depend on the Provincial Institute of Gaming and Casinos. This entity will be the enforcement authority, who will empower individuals or legal entities to "organize, develop, exploit, capture bets and market online gambling activity."
