Meeting in Brasilia

Hard Rock Group visits Tourism Minister to learn more about Brazil’s resort casino projects

An important meeting took place yesterday between Alex Pariente, vice president of Hard Rock International, and Brazil’s Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio. The executive was in Brasília in search of information about the projects under discussion in Brazil for the approval of integrated resorts in the country and the current stage of discussions on the regulation of sports betting. “We talked about our interest in investing in Brazil and contributing to the post-pandemic economic recovery,” said Pariente.

According to Pariente, “the effects of the pandemic will be overcome by human intelligence, and entertainment is perhaps the market that will most quickly come out of the crisis, due to the pent-up demand. We will need two Fridays and two Saturdays a week to attend all events, congresses and fairs that are postponed.”

In a recent webinar held by GMB, Pariente commented that it was time for Brazil to have a regulatory framework for the gambling sector, in order to generate more tourism, taxes and jobs. “We have to recognize that there is a broad market to be developed in Brazil. When casino resorts are deployed, the investment meets a global tourist demand. The reactivation of the regional economy is a milestone when these establishments are developed.”

Although he did not anticipate in detail the projects under analysis by the international group to the Minister of Tourism, it is known that Hard Rock has a lot of interest in the Brazilian market and that it already has a 'Master Plan' designed for an enterprise and interest in other states for opening of integrated resorts. What is known, for the time being, is that Pariente said to the minister that "tourism is a market that needs special attention, and national and foreign investments will promote the generation of jobs and income in Brazil."

According to him, "in addition to the development of regional tourism, with casinos there is a high increase in other related activities, bringing wealth to the region and generating high sums in taxes and jobs."

Pariente said that all sectors of the industry need to have a very clear regulatory framework and to advance this is essential, not only for the big IRC’s but also for other gambling activities. “For this reason, we are looking for consistent information on the progress of the bills under discussion in Brazil for the implantation of casinos in resorts as well as on the regulation of sports betting. We have a lot to offer in Brazil, especially at this time when the country is taking its leap to overcome the economic crisis generated by the pandemic of the COVID-19.”
