Congress President extends PM allowing sale of Caixa shares until December 2021

The chairman of the Brazil’s Congress Board, senator Davi Alcolumbre, extended Provisional Measure (PM) 995/2020 for 60 days, which allows Caixa Econômica Federal to create subsidiaries with the opening of its own capital. The act was published in the Federal Official Gazette on Friday (2). If approved by Parliament, the restructuring of the CEF will allow access to additional sources of financing with the possibility of disposing of assets and conducting Initial Public Offers (IPOs).

According to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, PM 995/2020 is the first step towards the sale of assets of Caixa Econômica Federal, which intends to reduce its operations in sectors such as insurance and other non-strategic markets.

f approved by Parliament, the measure will lead to the restructuring of the institution until December 2021 and will allow access to additional sources of financing, with the possibility of divesting assets and holding Initial Public Offers (IPOs).

Also according to the government, the restructuring will not affect Caixa's performance in strategic public policies, such as Bolsa Família, the Severance Pay Fund (FGTS) and real estate financing.
