Buenos Aires casinos reopened after eight months closed due to the pandemic

After an agreement by the authorities of the Buenos Aires Lottery (LOTBA) and the city’s Health Minister, some of Buenos Aires gambling operators have finally reopened after eight months with Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo and the Casino Buenos Aires, located in Puerto Madero, both now welcoming back guests. The venues operate at between 20 to 30 per cent of their capacity, depending on the type of ventilation available.

The gambling halls of Casino Buenos Aires in Puerto Madero and the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, which had been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, reopened this Monday with protocols that include a capacity of 30% of the total capacity of each place, the use of masks and the signing of an affidavit by the attendees.

The City Lottery (Lotba) confirmed the measure, through a statement, in which it specified that a "limited reopening" of both gambling halls comes into effect "in accordance with the hygiene and safety protocols established by the Ministry of Buenos Aires health.

The agency pointed out that the measure "constitutes a third stage of gradual openings of the game in the City, since in the month of May the opening of the betting agencies had been authorized and in August, the equestrian activity, always in strict compliance with established protocols ".

Regarding the protocol, it was established that in the cases in which the rooms admit natural ventilation, the occupancy coefficient of the capacity will be a maximum of 30% in relation to the maximum capacity enabled; while if the place has no air circulation, then access should be restricted to 20%.

Furthermore, every two hours the rooms must be vacated to proceed with the pertinent cleaning and disinfection; While during the stay in the play areas it is not possible to drink, eat or smoke and a mask must be worn at all times, while a minimum social distance of 2 meters must be respected.
