Pedro Monti, firm's Games Area Manager

"Custom believes in Brazil and knows that the regulation of gaming will come soon"

Custom, a state-of-the-art technological solutions firm in both hardware and software and services, is ready to expand its participation in Brazil through the regulation of the gaming sector. The company installed in the industrial pole of Santa Rita de Sapucaí, the first factory outside Italy to anticipate legalization and adapt to local requirements to follow its worldwide adopted motto: “Total experience”. Pedro Monti, Games Area Manager, talks with GMB about the company plans.

GMB - First of all, I would like you to tell us how Custom was born.
Pedro Sérgio Monti Jr.
- First of all, I would like to say that it is a great pleasure to be able to talk with you from GBM about opportunities in the gaming sector. Custom was born in Parma, Italy, in 1992. As a result of the union of partners Carlo Stradi and Alberto Campanini, the company has invested heavily in its own technology and in high quality throughout these almost 30 years of history.
Today there are five factories around the world and commercial presence in 76 countries. Initially with thermal printing solutions, but throughout this history several other solutions have been incorporated covering all in one terminals, touch monitors, fiscal solutions and recently a whole line of data intelligence with readers, data collectors and portable terminals. Not only in lotteries and betting, but we are strongly present in retailers, aviation & public transport, parking lots, entertainment in general (since South Africa 2010 all World Cup and Olympics tickets are printed in Custom solutions), banks & finance, logistics & postage, medical area and information and self-service kiosks.

What motivated the company to turn to the gaming sector?
Our line of solutions meets the demands of this sector. The equipment has undergone evolutions to meet the demanding European and North American markets and, in this sense, specific products for the gaming sector have been incorporated into the portfolio. We have a large presence in lotteries and casinos on these continents.

What are Custom's solutions for this segment of the economy?
A very large line of printing solutions and a new line for capturing and digitizing data. Desktop, open frame, and portable solutions of the most diverse types. They are equipment of extreme quality and prepared for each application. Be it assisted or in a self-service system. The available resources make the systems quite autonomous and robust. Some products are very specific to the sector. Some printing solutions already have scanner systems attached. This line of readers expands to portable, desktop solutions and to self-service kiosks. As in many other markets, the presence of self-service solutions is an increasingly greater reality. And in this niche, touch screen monitors are items of great importance. We have a line of extreme quality composing complete solutions for the sector.

You adopt the motto "Total Experience". What does this mean for Custom and how to show this concept to customers?
Total Experience: requires adequate services and technologies that can satisfy people's needs in terms of comfort and entertainment. The continuous development of diverse skills and knowledge has allowed the company to stand out in numerous markets, often being the first to propose specific solutions. This strategic mentality allows for an increase in vertical skills in certain sectors that, when integrated, offer an approach totally focused on the needs of customers, with special attention also to the experience of the final consumer.

Since when did the company start operating in Brazil?
Until 2018 the performance was through importing partners, when then the company came with full strength to the country. Custom acquired a company in the south of Minas Gerais with 30 years of experience in touch screen solutions, located in the industrial hub of Santa Rita do Sapucaí known as Vale da Eletrônica. Custom's entire global capacity has joined this extensive local experience to provide the Brazilian market with a complete partnership.

Did you settle in Brazil to serve the gaming market or has this been happening over time? Custom's arrival in Brazil has always been one of the focuses in the gaming market. The expectation for regulation has been around for some time and the Italian matrix is betting on that. But all the markets mentioned in the first question are in full swing, with very significant growth in these two years of national presence.

What products and services are available in the country to serve the gaming and sports betting segment?
Complete printing solutions, readers, all in one terminal, portable computers and the new line for data capture and digitalization. Tableware and kiosks. Always with robust, fast products and its own (cutting edge) technology. This is a great Custom differential. Globally today we have a Research and Development team that represents almost 10% of the entire staff! We fully master the technology of all our products and with that the support offered to customers is unbeatable.

How do you see the issue of gambling regulation in Brazil?
As a matter of time. We have been following mainly through GMB (newletters and webinar) and we believe in this regulation soon. We are going through a very complicated moment, when everyone's priorities were touched to face a pandemic. If it weren't for that, I think we would have at least part of the regulation in place.

What else will Custom bring to the country when gaming are regulated?
We are already bringing !! Custom's facilities in Brazil are becoming the first product development center outside Italy! The Brazilian market requires extremely specific demands and thus it is necessary to develop “tropicalized” products. This R&D center linked to the new factory, recently opened, and a complete line of products that meet the needs of partner customers are available to the games market. Custom, every day with you!
