Caixa lotteries raise US$ 2.2 billion until September 2020

Caixa, the largest Brazilian bank in terms of number of customers and credit, announces its consolidated result for the third quarter. Lotteries raised R$ 11.9 billion (US$ 2.2bn) until September 2020, only R$ 210 million (US$ 38.7m) less than the same period in 2019. About R$ 4.4 billion (US$ 812m) were transferred to the Federal Government's social programs in the areas of social security, sports, culture, public safety, education, and health, corresponding to a transfer of 37.3% of the total collected.

Caixa Econômica Federal recorded a net book profit of R$ 1.89 billion (US$ 349m) in the third quarter, a value that represents a fall of 76.4% compared to the same period last year (R$ 8.026 billion - US$ 1.48bn), according to the balance sheet released this Wednesday (25). In comparison with the result of the second quarter of 2020 (R$ 2.6 billion – US$ 480m), the decrease was 26.1%.

The bank's adjusted net income, which excludes extraordinary items, was R$ 2.6 billion (US$ 480m) in 3Q, with growth of 1.7% in relation to 2Q, but a drop of 67.1% in relation to the third quarter of last year. From January to September, it totaled R$ 8.3 billion (US$ 1.53bn), down 48.6% compared to the same period in 2019.

From January to September 2019, the collection with lotteries totaled R$ 12.1 billion (US$ 2.23 bn), up 22.7% compared to R$ 9.87 billion (US$ 1.82bn) in the same period in 2019. In 2020, and with the pandemic as a context, the drop in revenue was only R$ 210 million (US$ 38.7m) (-1.65%).
