ABLE meets with Ministry of Economy to discuss the future of lotteries in Brazil

ABLE - Brazilian Association of State Lotteries - met on Tuesday (3), virtually, with government representatives to seek an understanding between Secap and the states after the STF determined the end of Union’s monopoly in the operation of the activity. “Our objective is to guarantee a harmonious coexistence among all those involved in favor of the growth of the sector,” said Roberto Rabello, president of the entity.

The virtual meeting with members of the government was attended by Roberto Rabello, president of ABLE; Marcel de Moura Mais Rabello, legal director of the entity; Pedro Calhman de Miranda, Secretary of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery of the Ministry of Economy; Waldir Eustáquio Marques Jr., Undersecretary of Prizes and Draws; Alexandre Loyo, Secap Chief of Staff; Altair Mendanha de Oliveira, General Coordinator; and Itamar de Carvalho Pereira, advisor.

According to Roberto Rabello, president of ABLE, “we sought the Ministry of Economy to strengthen ties, after the trial of our ADPF. There was a gap between the lottery and games sector of the federal government and the state lotteries, and we needed this approach to seek the increase of our activity.”

According to the executive, the sector is strong and needs to be in tune with the Union, which continues with the monopoly of regulation, so that the states can fulfill their social function through their lotteries. “With the meeting, we achieved the necessary approximation for us to do everything in agreement with the central decisions,” commented the president of ABLE.

Marcel Rabello, the entity's legal director, says that “the coexistence between Secap and state lotteries has started to be harmonious and this will result in the development of lottery activity across the country, leading to social assistance, a function first of the lotteries, to everyone who needs it.”
